Week 7 -- Gussyin' Up Our Garden Gnomes

Our poor little garden gnomes have seen better days.
They've been taking a beating form the heat, wind and rain for years.So, we brought them in, cleaned them up and started sprucing up their paint.
I left the paints out on a Sunday afternoon and when the kids came over, most of them picked up a brush and gave a gnome a new coat of paint with maybe some polka dots, stripes or checks.

The gnomes are much happier now in their bright new colors.Come on Spring; we're ready for you now!

    I love that you repaired your gnomes...of course that is why you want to see Gnomeo and Juliet...ha ha ha...oh mom that's why we love you!

    your gnomes are cute but actually I am more impressed with your paint collection.... what else do you paint? Can I come and paint too? It looks like fun!

    Oh Christine, if only you knew my dad. He has a collection of pretty much everything you may or may not ever need.

Israel, Petra and Egypt -- a Trip of a Lifetime! -- Part 1, Israel

A trip to the Holy Land, Masada, the Dead Sea, Petra and Egypt! Part 1 A dream come true -- riding a camel at the Pyramids of Giza.  I've seen photos of tourists doing this all my life...and, now, here I am! OK, so it's quite a long flight to Israel. We left from LAX (see my post on the best way to get to LAX.)     It was at our layover was at JFK in New York, that we got a preview of what we'd be seeing a lot of in Israel over the next week or so. Luckily, this long Delta flight had individual seat back TVs.  I watched a couple of movies, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody .  I took a few naps and tried to enjoy the food.  This flight had USB c hargers at each seat -- one nice thing about flying in newer planes.  After losing an entire day to travel and time change, we were happy to walk on solid ground once again. The missing weeks…

My last blog was on July 3rd and since then, I’ve had many new experiences, not the kind I would have planned on but the kind that have made me appreciate my faith, the strength of prayer and every member of my family more. It all began in Yosemite. Our family enjoys camping together. We’ve camped at the beaches for years – Doheny State Beach is a favorite and we’ve camped at Zion National Park and back in 2009 in Yosemite. This year, we had reservations at the Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley. This means that several months ago, we set a strategy – choosing a week and a range of campsites and gave everyone the date and time that the coveted and hard to get reservations would open. On a Sunday morning in March we all woke up early and had our hoped for reservations chosen on the National Park Service Reservation website www.recreation.gov .
