Things That Make a Long Flight Bearable

S tretch pants Soft top with long sleeves A  light knit jacket -- airplanes can get too cold -- and this can double as a pillow Slip on shoes (for getting through security and quick off and on while in your seat) Warm socks -- no one wants cold ankles A neck pillow -- an inflatable one saves space Reading glasses  Books, magazines Entertainment -- loaded on portable devices is the best An empty water bottle to refill once you get past security  A sleeping mask Ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones if you're a high roller Healthy snacks -- you can bring on fruit, granola bars, etc. of your own choosing

The Best Way to Get to LAX

What's the best way to get to LAX from the Inland Empire?  One word:  Metrolink ! There are Metrolink stations all over Southern California.....they all end up at Union Station and from Union Station, there's a continually running "FlyAway" bus going to LAX that takes just a quick few minutes. So, don't bother your friends and family....just find one of the train cars that have the bicycle logo on the outside and you'll have plenty of room to store your luggage while you just sit and enjoy the view. We usually just take the train to LAX the day before our flight takes off....just so we can relax in a nearby hotel (we take the hotel shuttle from LAX and the used it to get back the following morning).  .

Israel, Petra and Egypt -- a Trip of a Lifetime! -- Part 1, Israel

A trip to the Holy Land, Masada, the Dead Sea, Petra and Egypt! Part 1 A dream come true -- riding a camel at the Pyramids of Giza.  I've seen photos of tourists doing this all my life...and, now, here I am! OK, so it's quite a long flight to Israel. We left from LAX (see my post on the best way to get to LAX.)     It was at our layover was at JFK in New York, that we got a preview of what we'd be seeing a lot of in Israel over the next week or so. Luckily, this long Delta flight had individual seat back TVs.  I watched a couple of movies, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody .  I took a few naps and tried to enjoy the food.  This flight had USB c hargers at each seat -- one nice thing about flying in newer planes.  After losing an entire day to travel and time change, we were happy to walk on solid ground once again.
